Dealing with Anxiety

As long as we live in this world, there will always be situations and challenges that would cause anxiety. God already knew at some point in our lives we would be dealing with anxiety that’s why He made His word available to us to encourage us and reassure us of His promises.

I have a friend who at a time, was so filled with anxiety and depression because he had too many things he was worrying about. He didn’t have a job, he was dealing with a sick relative, his marriage was falling apart, his family was not there to and so encourage him and it was so overwhelming that he would cry at the drop of a hat. Then I began to show him how he could apply his faith to his situation and how that the problems he was faced with were not his to fix. I shared this message about dealing with anxiety, and in a short while, God came through for him.

Life presents us with reasons to be anxious or worried. Outstanding bills, a wayward teenager, a failing marriage, sicknesses etc. There are so many things that can make you become anxious or have to deal with anxiety. Do you find yourself stressed out and really don’t know how you can balance out the pressing needs in your life and family? God will help you. So how do we really deal with anxiety?

Dealing with Anxiety

Step 1: Remind yourself that God loves you – When we are anxious, we would naturally look at the present and future, forgetting all about the past. But when you think of how God has saved you, provided for you, protected you in the past, it is a constant reminder that He loves you.

Matthew 10:29-31 (The Living Bible) 29 Not one sparrow (What do they cost? Two for a penny?) can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. 30 And the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 So don’t worry! You are more valuable to him than many sparrows.

Deuteronomy 32:10 (The Living Bible) God protected them in the howling wilderness
As though they were the apple of his eye.

God guards you jealously. When you drive on the highway or take a stroll down to the park, or ride on your bike, or even sleep at night, His loving gaze never leaves you. Know the worth God has placed on you and remind yourself constantly of it. If you don’t have an idea of the value God has placed on you, then you will be running after the things God has designed to be running after you. Don’t allow what you lack make you lose your value. You are precious and God loves you.

Step 2: Don’t focus on the problem – If your focus is on how you will solve your problems, then you are focusing on the wrong things. Agreed, there is a problem, something is not going the right way. But the way out of is not to focus on the problem. Whatever you focus on becomes magnified. When you focus on your problems, they take up all the space in your mind.

Matthew 6: 25-27 (The Living Bible)“So my counsel is: Don’t worry about things—food, drink, and clothes. For you already have life and a body—and they are far more important than what to eat and wear. 26 Look at the birds! They don’t worry about what to eat—they don’t need to sow or reap or store up food—for your heavenly Father feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than they are. 27 Will all your worries add a single moment to your life?

Worrying and anxiety will add nothing to your life, rather it would take away your good health and sound mind. And God doesn’t want that for you. Instead of worrying, you can remind God of His promises where He said that He will not leave you nor forsake you. Pray to Him like you would talk to a friend and watch Him show up for you.

Step 3: Put God First – God tells us not to focus on the problem, but on Him and His kingdom, he says we should focus on his word and his promises and when we do that, everything we want, and pray for becomes ours. When you put God first, then you will become first in His eyes.

Matthew 6:31-34 “So don’t worry at all about having enough food and clothing. Why be like the heathen? For they take pride in all these things and are deeply concerned about them. But your heavenly Father already knows perfectly well that you need them, 33 and he will give them to you if you give him first place in your life and live as he wants you to.

34 “So don’t be anxious about tomorrow. God will take care of your tomorrow too. Live one day at a time.

The things we worry about, has already been released by heaven to come into our lives as additions. so how do we access it.

Accessing God’s blessings

  • Focus on God. Put Him first in all things.
  • Silence the lying voice of the enemy that tells you that God will not hear you.
  • Find out what God says in His word about your situation and begin to confess it into your life.
  • Substitute your worry and anxiety with prayer.
  • Praise God for doing it.

God is ready to turn that situation around for you if you are ready to trust Him with it. I see you breaking out of every pattern of worry and i see testimonies coming your way in Jesus name.
