FEAR means False Evidence Appearing Real.
Deep recession had hit the whole country, so bad that people made meals out of their kids. So much fear in the atmosphere, no grains to buy because the farmers couldn’t plant. The produce stores were empty and a lot of people went without eating a meal each day.
When things had gotten out of hand, the king summoned the prophet, Elisha; asking for God’s word in all of these. Then Elisha brought good news, the famine was going to end the next day; and because food would be so abundant, it would be sold at a ridiculously low price.
The king’s aide snickered saying “That couldn’t happen if the Lord made windows in the sky!” That probably showed the extent of the famine but Elisha replied and said “You will see it happen, but you won’t be able to buy any of it!
Now the heroes of the story were four lepers who sat at the gate of the city. If they went into the city they would starve to death and if they remained at the gate they would still starve. All the while, the Syrian army was on the other side of the city. So they thought to themselves, “Let’s go and surrender to the Syrian army”. As they were approaching the Syrians, God made the army hear chariots of a great army approaching, then they panicked and fled, leaving their tents, horses and of course FOOD.
By the time the lepers arrived there, no man was found there. but there was an abundance of gold, silver, grain etc. They went back into the city to share the good news and the king sent people to bring everything that was left behind in the Syrian camp.
And as Elisha had prophesied, there was an abundance of grain that it was sold at a cheap price. 2nd Kings 1-end.
This is a very powerful story of 4 lepers that were willing to conquer their fear. God’s word had already gone out, ready to be manifested, but as powerful as God’s Word is He needs a man who is ready to step out without fear and act upon the Word He has given.
When God’s word is released, the power of responsibility accompanies it because He needs people who are ready to be responsible enough to act on that word.
Fear is absolutely normal and it is something we will always face as humans, but if we are not careful, it would rob us of many things. Most times, what we are fearful of is most likely not going to happen. It’s just our mind playing tricks on us.
There are several heroes of faith who were fearful at one point or the other in their lives. Elijah was afraid of Jezebel. Peter was afraid. David was afraid. Jacob was afraid and many others. God is aware of the possibility of fear, so He has given us several verses in the scripture that tell us FEAR NOT.
Isaiah 41:10 (The Living Bible) Fear not, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed. I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.
Where fear is present, faith is absent. Faith simply means moving in order for God to move. It means taking a step in order to bring into the physical what God has perfected in the spiritual. Until you step out in faith, you may never take hold of all that God has promised you.
Everything you desire is on the other side of your fear.
We all were born with two natural types of fear
- Fear of noise
- Fear of falling
Every other fear was learned in the first 6 years of our lives. The question now is
How did we learn to fear
- Past Experiences
- Behavior of others
You will be amazed at the many things you can do and achieve if you can conquer your fear.
